European showdown awaits Ferry Svan and Emil Hansson: "This year, it's time to bring home the gold"

On September 29, the 2024 European Trophy in STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® will be determined in Bellinzona, Switzerland. Among the top favorites are two Swedes: Ferry Svan, the 2023 silver medalist, and Emil Hansson, the 2022 winner.

On Sunday, September 29, Europe’s top athletes will gather in the Alps to compete for the title of European champion. The Swiss city of Bellinzona hosts the European Trophy, a competition filled with adrenaline where athletes face each other in intense knockout duels. In a single heat, the athletes must complete four disciplines as quickly as possible; a feat that demands skill, endurance, and concentration. Among the favorites is last year’s silver medalist, Swedish athlete Ferry Svan.

“It was incredibly close last year, so this year it’s time to bring home the gold. To reach the top of the podium, I must minimize mistakes; even the small details can cost time in a heat. Whoever manages this best will emerge as the winner,” says Ferry Svan.

Svan will be forced to contend against Europe's finest athletes for podium spots. Among them is his countryman, Emil Hansson, who won the European Trophy in 2022 and took a historic silver medal at the World Championships in Stuttgart in 2023. Beyond a spot on the podium, the athletes are also competing for a ticket to the major competition, the 2025 World Trophy. Of the 19 competitors, the top ten will qualify for the World Trophy, where they will join the elite from the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

“Starting the competition with a strong time trial is crucial. With the tough competition, it’s important to be in the game from the start, prepare thoroughly, and maintain focus throughout the competition,” says Emil Hansson.

The European Trophy is the final competition before the season's highlight: the 2024 World Championship in Toulouse, France. There, Sweden will participate in the team competition, and Ferry Svan will represent the nation in the individual competition.
