Ferry Svan Takes Silver in Switzerland – Narrow Miss at the European Trophy

On September 29, Europe's top TIMBERSPORTS® athletes gathered for the major event, the European Trophy. Professional athletes Ferry Svan and Emil Hansson represented Sweden and the Nordic region in the competition, with Svan securing the silver medal after a tough heat against Poland's Michał Dubicki. Emil Hansson also faced Dubicki but ended up in fifth place.

The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® European Trophy 2024 was decided on Sunday, September 29, in Bellinzona, Switzerland. Swedes Ferry Svan and Emil Hansson, who were among the favorites, competed in what could be likened to a European Championship. Europe's premier athletes faced off in knockout duels, performing four disciplines in a single heat: Stock Saw, Underhand Chop, Single Buck, and Standing Block Chop.

Both Swedes breezed through the first elimination round and advanced to the quarterfinals. Ferry Svan won his quarterfinal and then faced the host nation's hope, Oliver Reinhard. Svan again demonstrated his prowess by winning the semifinal. In the final, he encountered a tough match against Dubicki, who defeated his second Swede of the day. Consequently, Svan had to settle for the silver medal for the second consecutive year.

"It feels very good to take home a silver after all. Of course, one always aims for the top of the podium, but overall, I am satisfied with today's performance," said Ferry Svan.

Emil Hansson also clashed with Michał Dubicki in the quarterfinals, but unfortunately, Dubicki proved too strong. After an incredibly close heat, only an axe chop equivalent to just over a second separated the two athletes.

"It was a really tough competition, but it went well for me. I kept pushing Dubicki all the way and I am super pleased with my performance," said Emil Hansson.

The European Trophy 2024 was the season's penultimate competition. Next up is the World Championship in Toulouse on November 8-9, where Sweden's national team will compete in the Team World Championship, and Ferry Svan will compete in the individual World Championship.
