The Nordic TIMBERSPORTS® athletes are ready for a new season of axe-tion

New season of TIMBERSPORTS® presented: Highlights in Jönköping and Milan

The 2025 season of TIMBERSPORTS® kicks off with the Nordic Championship on 7 June at Elmia Wood in Jönköping. In addition, the World Championship in Milan will be taking place in October, where Nordic athletes are hoping to shake up the world elite.

The 2025 season is getting off to a flying start with the highlight of the Nordic competition season: the Nordic Championship. The global trade fair and meeting place for the forest industry, Elmia Wood in Jönköping, Sweden, will be hosting the Championship on 7 June. The Nordic region’s top athletes will compete in all six of the sport’s disciplines – three with an axe, two with a chainsaw and one with a long hand-pulled saw, competing in the Pro, Rookie and Women’s classes. The winner of the Pro class will qualify to represent Sweden at the individual World Championship in Milan on 24–25 October, while the silver medalist will get their chance in the World Championship’s team competition.

In recent years, Ferry Svan and Emil Hansson have competed for the title of Nordic Champion in the Pro class, and last year it was Svan who drew the long straw.

"It's a flying start to the season with the Nordic Championships at Elmia Wood, and my goal is to clinch the gold medal again this year. A tough battle awaits where the smallest hundredth of a second could be decisive, so precision will be key," says Ferry Svan, continuing: "2024 was a strong year for me, but I am far from satisfied. This year, my focus is on qualifying for the World Championships again and, once there, reaching the podium."

In the Women’s class, Denmark’s Felixa Banck and Sweden’s Tove Njåstad are expected to battle it out for the title, while in the Rookie class, Denmark’s Bo Andersen hopes to defend his title.

"I look forward to starting a new season with the Nordic Championships, and I am once again aiming for a spot on the podium. My goal is to defend my title, but the competition is tough, and it will be a close fight," says Bo Andersen.

Nordic national teams on the rise
Last year, Sweden established itself as one of the world’s leading nations within TIMBERSPORTS®, with Ferry Svan taking an impressive fourth place in the individual World Championship, while the Swedish national team set a Nordic record and ended up in seventh place in the Team World Championship. At the same World Championship, Norway also stood out with a newly assembled team consisting of professionals Vebjørn Sønsteby, Bart Gevers and Gerhard Sørensen-Fuglem, along with rookie athletes Simen Jesnes Buraas and Hans Stenberg. With a wealth of experience, both the Norwegian and Swedish teams now have their sights set on the 2025 World Championship in Milan, Italy, on 24–25 October.

In addition to the Nordic Championship and the World Championship in Milan, another major competition, the European Trophy, will take place on 17 August in the Netherlands, where Europe’s top professional athletes – including Swedes – will clash.

Nordic athletes will be competing at the following events in 2025:

  • On 7 June, the 2025 Nordic Championship will be held at Elmia Wood in Jönköping.
  • On 17 August, the 2025 European Trophy will take place in Lage Vuursche, in the Netherlands.
  • On 24–25 October, this year’s World Championship will take place in Milan, Italy. The team competition will be held on Friday and the individual competition on Saturday. The athletes representing Sweden in the individual competition will be determined after the 2025 Nordic Championship.
